The skies above IWM Duxford once again roared with the sound of history as the annual Battle of Britain Airshow returned in 2024. This iconic event, held to commemorate the courageous pilots who defended Britain during the Second World War, drew thousands of aviation enthusiasts from far and wide.

A Spectacular Display of Flying Heritage.

The airshow featured a breathtaking array of historic aircraft, many of which participated in the actual Battle of Britain. Highlights included:Spitfires and Hurricanes: The iconic fighters that formed the backbone of Britain's defense took center stage, performing daring aerobatic maneuvers and flypasts.Lancaster Bomber: The mighty Lancaster, a symbol of British resilience during the war, made a dramatic appearance, its engines thundering overhead.Vintage Biplanes: A collection of elegant biplanes, including the SE.5a and Sopwith Camel, showcased the early days of aviation.Modern Military Aircraft: Contemporary aircraft like the Typhoon and F-35 Lightning II were also on display, demonstrating the evolution of aerial warfare.

Ground Activities and Living History

In addition to the aerial displays, IWM Duxford offered a variety of ground activities to immerse visitors in the history of the Battle of Britain.

Highlights included:
